Show Notes

On this week's episode of the YYC Popcast,

I was so pumped to chat with badass bass player, Lisa Jacobs! Lisa has worked with Jann Arden, Jocelyn Alice, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, and many more in her career and when she isn’t touring or doing shows, she also does amazing work in Calgary as a Music Therapist. Balance is a big theme in this episode and we chat about work and passion and how creativity can also be a hard job! But we have a ton of laughs too! Enjoy!

Lisa Jacobs :
Multi-instrumentalist, Lisa Jacobs, declares the bass guitar her most beloved. Playing her first blues festival at age 12, she has gone on to write, record, music direct and perform with a variety artists, including platinum recording pop artist Jocelyn Alice, Marshall (Walk Off The Earth), Juno winner Paul Reddick, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Wide Mouth Mason, Suzie Vinnick, Amy Bishop and Jann Arden (a personal highlight).

In addition to working as a session musician, Lisa released an EP with her original project - jocelyn & lisa- in 2012. A song from that project - “Bound to You” went gold after being re-released by Jocelyn Alice in 2018.

Most recently, Lisa toured North America for 6 months with “We Will Rock You”, a musical based on Queen’s music. A major venue highlight was playing the theatre in Madison Square Gardens.

Lisa has a degree in music therapy (with a minor in jazz performance on electric bass). As a therapist, she’s had the opportunity to create music with people of varied abilities in many different settings including schools, hospitals and even a maximum security prison.
